As per the new RTE (Right to Education) schools cannot screen children below the age of 14. However some schools may still take interviews and here are some questions that are typically asked:
About School:
- What do you know about this school?
- Why do you want to admit your child to this school?
- How do you know about this school?
- How do you expect the school to contribute in your child life?
- What are your priorities to search in a school while seeking admission in a
particular school?
About Kid:
- His favorite colour.
- His favorite food
- His favorite outfit
- What does your child like the most?
- What does your child dislike the most?
- What are your child’s hobbies?
- What your child can do by himself
- Child’s favorite pet animal or bird?
- What makes your child happy?
- What makes your child sad?
- Child favorite indoor and outdoor activity?
- To whom your child is more close and why?
- Is your child introvert or an extrovert?
- Is your child fully trained with toilet and washroom manners?
- What is your child’s daily routine?
- Has your child been to any play school or crèche
- Do you remember when your child last given a vaccination was and which vaccinations were given?
- Does your child play with computer?
- Which is your child’s favorite cartoon on TV?
- How is your child’s relationship with his sibling?
About Parent:
- Being a parent is difficult / rewarding / frightening / wonderful? What is your opinion?
- Whether mother is working or not if working who looks after the child in her absence?
- What are the qualifications of child parents and grandparents?
- How much time does Parent spend with child?
- What are the restrictions put on your child by you and why?
- Are you aware of the Internet?
Do you have a computer at home? - What languages are being used to communicate with the child at home?
- What do you do to establish good communication with your child?
Others:
- What are your aspirations for your child?
- How do you improve eating habits of your child?
- How will you develop the qualities of sharing and caring in the child?
- Would you like to share something special about your child?
- How do you make sure that your child eats a balanced adequate healthy diet?
- What should we do when a child misbehaves in front of others?
- What is your opinion about creating a routine in a child’s life?
- Are there any responsibilities given to your child by you?
- How justified are we in forcing our wishes onto the child?
- What would you do if your child cries during the first few days of going to school?
- What could be the best thing given to your child as a parent?
- How do you tackle your child tantrums?
- What are your views with respect to the joint family versus nuclear family while focusing on the child overall development?
- What is more important for you and why: Academic, Performance or Social Adjustments of your child?
- List out according to priority the expectations / end results from your child: Happiness, Achievement, Academics, and Overall Personality.
- What benefits/gains do you see by having sent your child to a play school?
- Are the cartoon channels beneficial or harmful according to you?
- What are your views on the use of technology in school education?
- How would like to treat your child?
Situational Questions:
- Your son is playing in the block area. His friend knocks over block structure and in return your son hits his friend. What will you do and why?
- A parent comes to pick up their child and notices a bite received by your child.
They become angry and demand to speak to you. How will you handle the situation? - What you would do in a situation like if two children were fighting over a toy?
