Who Might Get Affected During The Flu Season?

The people who are most likely to get affected by flu are those who follow an unhealthy lifestyle, pregnant women, elderly people with 65 years of age, children under the age of 5 years and people suffering from chronic health conditions like asthma, heart diseases and diabetes.

But the good news is that there are things you can do to protect yourself from the Flu before you get caught. Take a look at the 5 most effective tips to stay healthy during the flu season:

  1. Eat a Healthy and Balanced Diet

The first and the foremost step you can take forward to prevent flu and any other health problem is by adopting a healthy eating habit. It’s not only important for those who are at a risk of catching flu but, also everyone else. So, don’t cut calories from your diet and make sure to consume healthy meals every day.

  1. Wash Your Hands Frequently

As we all know, washing your hands before and after having food & using restrooms is mandatory for everyone to stay healthy but according to the healthcare professionals, washing hands more frequently during the flu season is highly recommended. Use soap or alcohol based hand wash (hand wash must contain at least 60 percent alcohol) for your hands.

  1. Avoid Contact with People Who Are Sick

If possible, make sure that you limit your exposure to people who are sick but if you can’t avoid meeting them, then don’t forget to clean your hands before and after interacting with them. This will lower the risk of getting sick yourself.

  1. Get Plenty of Sleep

It is important that you take at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night. Not getting enough sleep can weaken your immune system and make you more prone to getting sick. However, children need more sleep than adults. So, make sure that they take adequate sleep to recover faster.

  1. Drink More Fluids

Drink water as much as you can. It not only flushes your system but also keeps you hydrated during the winter season. In addition to this, consuming more fluids will also help in thinning mucus, drain your sinuses and offer you relief from stuffy nose. Hot drinks like herbal teas will prove to be of great help to you. They’re going to warm your airways which is going to relieve congestion. So, stick to them.
