Did you know that:
- Baisakhi falls on the first day of Vaisakh month according to Sikh Calendar, therefore it is also known as Vaisakhi.
- This festival marks the harvest time for Rabi crops like Wheat, Gram, Mustard, Barley, etc.
- Baisakhi also marks the onset of the Punjabi/Sikh New Year.
- On the Baisakhi of 1699, Guru Gobind Singh Ji laid the foundation of the ‘Khalsa Panth’ and named its first five members as the ‘Panja Pyaras’.
- On the same day, Guru Gobind ji gave the famous 5 K’s of the unique Sikh identity and instructed them to wear these at all times.
- After this Baisakhi day, Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji – the Holy Book of the Sikhs was made their eternal ‘Guru’.
- Also, Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Samaj on a Baisakhi.
- It was a Baisakhi day when Gautam Buddha attained Nirvana.

For celebrating the vibrant festival of Baisakhi,
- People visit Gurudwaras early in the morning for the Baisakhi Ardas, where
- specially prepared Kara Prasad is distributed, followed by Guru ka Langar’
- People sing devotional songs and perform Bhangra and Gidda
- Also…In several villages, Baisakhi Fairs are organized
