In the year 2008, the Indian Government declared January 24 to be celebrated as the “National Girl Child Day” across the country, primarily with the aim of changing the perception that the society has towards the girl child so that she is valued and respected. Moreover, girls should be given their due recognition, which is fading as the time is passing by.
To be born a girl child is a unique blessing in itself. Thus, in a male dominant country like India, it becomes imperative to celebrate the existence of girls in the society. People residing in metros don’t pay much heed to the sensitive issue of girl child discrimination. Though small children generally do not make any gender bias, however, once the children grow, they tend to develop the tendency to differentiate and discriminate. This is so because what they see, they learn the same. Thus, there is a need to make efforts to address this alarming issue and uplift the status of girls in the society. Moreover, initiatives must be taken to curb undesirable practice of girl child discrimination.
National Girl Child Day celebrations had been started to render the requisite support and offer fresh opportunities to all the girls residing in the country. This day lays emphasis on removing the social stigma and the inequalities that are faced by the girl child. Inequality in terms of education, legal rights, nutrition, child marriage etc. is a vast problem that needs to be addressed with immediate effect.
So, simply make use of the tips listed below that will help you to generate awareness amongst your children and highlight the importance of dedicating an entire day as ‘National Girl Child Day’:
