The Directorate of Education — DoE has ruled that the ‘neighbourhood’ should no longer be looked upon as a decisive parameter for nursery admissions. This acts as a major relief for many parents as all parts of Delhi don’t have good schools. The DoE has ruled that admission can be provided to students from far-off locations as long as the school can provide a ‘good’ transportation system. Again, Delhi doesn’t have an equal density of schools — South Delhi has abundant schooling options but not North and East Delhi.
The earlier admission criteria had points calculated on the recommendations of the Ganguly Committee, which led to lesser scoring for students from far-away locations. The original ‘neighbourhood’ point system was used to consider the convenience of students but it was hampering the schooling choices for many families.
