Children are like clay in the potter’s hands! We, as parents, can mould them righteously to help them become good humans with strong career minds. So, these are some important values for children.
- Honesty- Is indeed the Best Policy!
Children who learn to value honesty at an early age tend to become honest adults all their lives. Such people enjoy guilt-free lives and feel content about themselves. The best way to encourage truthfulness in your child is to be a truthful person yourself. - Respect & Courtesy- Are the bases of all things!
“Give Respect, Take Respect!” If you teach your child basic human respect, other good traits will follow suit. For instance: respect for authority shows obedience, respect for others shows kindness. Also teach them to respect themselves because if you respect yourself, you would have others respect you. - Love- Knows No Boundaries!
Mahatma Gandhi Ji once said, “Love is the strongest force the world possesses”. Children are naturally loving and affectionate. However, for these sentiments to last, they need to be reciprocated. Don’t let a day pass without expressing your love to your child and let her express her love towards you and other members of the family. And when your children feel free to express their love to you, you instil in them perhaps the greatest value of all. - Discipline- Is Doing What Needs to be Done!
Discipline is an important trait every person should have in one’s character. The more disciplined you become, the easier life gets. And so, every parent should teach their children the art of discipline as well as self-discipline. As said by Roy L Smith “Discipline is the refining fire by which talent becomes ability”. - Responsibility- Learn to take responsibility!
Aptly put into words by Dr. Denis Waitley, “The Greatest Gifts you can give your Children are the Roots of Responsibility and the Wings of Independence”. Responsible children grow into responsible adults. Along with taking responsibilities like helping mom with households, cleaning your room, etc., a child should also know how to take responsibility for all the good and bad deeds done by her. - Humility & Gratitude- Are the Twin Characteristics of Happiness!
Teach your child to be thankful and appreciative for what life has given to her. Also, tell her to be humble always and that Humility does not mean you think less of yourself, it means you think of yourself less. There is no respect for others without humility in one’s self.Remember, Gratitude starts with Humility and ends with Honour. - Obedience- Is the Fruit of Faith!
All that your child has is given to her by you. Obedience is what you as a parent expect from her in return. Teach your child to be obedient and respectful towards you because it is rightly said “Obedience is the mother of Success”. - Determination- Encourage Her to take on a Challenge!
Determination is a value that you can encourage from a very young age. Avoid excessive praise, provide honest feedback in a supportive manner and encourage her to do things that don’t come easily. Remember, only some people succeed because they are Destined to, but most because they are Determined to! - Tolerance and Forgiveness- Are Life-Altering Lessons!
Forgiveness is one of the Most Powerful Gifts you can give yourself. Teaching your child to forgive and move past things can make it easier to fuel a healthier mindset. And somehow, Forgiveness, with Love and Tolerance, can accomplish Miracles that can happen in no other way. - Charity & Generosity- Are The Best Investments!
“We make a Living by what we Get, but we make a Life by what we Give!” Teach your child the importance of sharing which will help her be empathetic towards others. While you teach and instill all these values in your child, ask yourself this question- “Are you the adult you want your child to be?”
These are some important values for children. All parents should teach your children these traits and help them in becoming
