Basant Panchami is a Hindu festival and falls mainly in the month of February. The festival is celebrated at the end of the winter season, to welcome spring and is dedicated to the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge, Saraswati.
The festival marks the beginning of a new life with yellow mustard flowers starting to bloom and nature displaying her majestic best. Thus the colour of the festival is yellow and that’s why people wear yellow clothes and consume yellow sweets.
The most interesting feature of Basant Panchami is kite flying. One can see the blue sky covered with numbers of colourful kites. The festival is celebrated with great vigor especially in educational institutions as the students place their books at the goddess Saraswati feet, thus signifying that the books are being blessed by the Goddess.
